Hello there,

My name is Kyeyune Joy and I live in a small village called Byekwaso in Uganda. With this GoFundMe campaign, I am trying to get some financial help from people all over the world to plant various kinds of vegetables and fruits on my 1-hectare (10,000 m²) land. In the future, we are planning to buy even more land for more farming and more agricultural diversity. But as for now, we are happy with our relatively small space.

We have already started planting fruits and vegetables on our land. Some of them include bananas, oranges, jackfruits, pawpaws (assimilates), tomatoes, Irish potatoes, sweet potatoes, cassavas (manioc), cabbage, and spinach. Currently, we have two jackfruit trees and several banana trees on our land to harvest from.

Our goal is to be able to continue our work, plant even more fruits and vegetables, and improve their quality. Moreover, we aspire to change our community's way of thinking. A lot of people here are still eating much meat and animal-based products. But as you may know, consuming too much of these products affects both our climate and economy negatively. Besides, we don't deserve to end animals' lives just for our personal preference, if you ask me.

We recently started working together with Doctor Fred Nani, an agricultural specialist, to help us with his knowledge of farming, seed quality, and adequate cultivation of plants.

We are sowing seeds at the beginning of ever rainy season (March – June) and harvesting in July/August, then we sow again in October, when the second rainy season starts, and harvest our crop around January.

After that, we will hand our crops to Kaya‘s Kitchen, a local company working together with an overseas business in the UK, to process the fruits and vegetables into vegan/vegetarian kibbles for our rescue dogs and cats. This is another part of our plan: drawing more attention towards a vegan/vegetarian diet. Dogs are like us humans omnivores, which means they can live off of any food provided. We want to feed our dogs a vegan diet, including all the necessary vitamins and micronutrients for their well-being, of course. As for the cats, which are obligate carnivores, the vegan/vegetarian kibbles will be a supplement to their meaty diet.

Our business with Kaya’s Kitchen is based on barter transactions solely.

The remaining plants of our crop will become our food to cook and share among our community.

With the financial help of people like you, we want to purchase an irrigation system, a water pump, and water pipes to be able to grow and harvest from our crops even in the dry season or when the weather is bad. About 1,000 Euros would be needed for an irrigation system plus a water pump and pipes. Installing the system on our land would require us another 500 Euros.
Furthermore, we would like to buy some basic farming materials such as gloves, shovels, spades, rakes, digging forks, and single-tine cultivators. On top of that, some fertilizers and pesticides would be needed to ensure our crop’s steady development.

Finally, we want to pay both our doctor for his great work and our neighbors for helping us out with our plantation fair price.

For this, we settled down with a total amount of 3,000 Euros for our GoFundMe campaign and hope to be able to make our dream of the plantation come true.
