Update 14/11/23 RED at last is making a fantastic recovery - Huge thanks to all of you compassionate lovely people who have helped raise funds for Red.
We are so close to the Target now with less than £900 to go. Please join in and give what you can to help Red and Joshua. Thank you
RED, a beautiful and friendly Saluki X was rescued and is now owned and loved by 20-year-old Joshua. Red has since become Joshua’s soul mate and support dog during Joshua’s rehabilitation from serious leg injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. They have been truly inseparable until the worst nightmare happened.
Whilst walking Red in a wooded area near Trentham on the afternoon of November 3rd Joshua heard Red yelp and take off terrified up the main road towards the town of Longton, Staffordshire, but quickly lost sight of him. Despite Red's usual prompt recall, whatever had startled him had clearly terrified him, to the extent he did not respond. Red is a sighthound with highly tuned senses, and could well have reacted to the sound of fireworks being set off. Joshua rode the surrounding areas, on his bike, all night looking for his Buddy, and every day after following his disappearance, searching for his buddy.
On the 4th of November Red was sighted running scared down the busy A50 dual carriageway in traffic in Meir; a witness reported seeing him ‘clipped’ by a car and Red disappeared again. Joshua uses his bicycle to search endlessly for his best friend. Lost Dog Capture Team CIC (LDCT) supporting Joshua in searching all areas using specialist Thermal equipment.
The team we were worried Red was now lying injured and unable to get home. The urgent search continued.
On November 7th Red was spotted again in Meir, close to the busy A50 an immediate search began in that area, and at around 9 pm he was spotted by the roadside having been in another more serious RTA. An amazing, caring person, took him to VETS NOW Emergency Hospital at Meir where they quickly set about trying to stabilize him, treating his many injuries, he was critically injured and the wait began.
Red is now Day 4 in critical care. This morning we heard he is turning a corner and although still has his ruptured lung drained, and finding it hard to stand on one of his back legs, he is now able to take oral meds, painkillers, and treatment for his numerous injuries- he is making progress.
He is one very lucky lad - owner Joshua and the teams at Lime Tree, Vets Now, and Lost Dog Capture are rooting for his full recovery.
Red does not have insurance and Joshua needs help to pay the vet's bill which is at the moment standing at £4600.00 with a final bill still to be declared.
Lime Tree and Vets Now have been amazing and we cannot thank them enough.
LDCT has underwritten the vets bill but we cannot do this alone.
We are appealing to all our followers and anyone who loves animals to donate to help Joshua and Red by donating to our SUPPORT RED’s RECOVERY - AGIVEME Campaign
All donations will go towards Red’s Veterinary Care Fees.
