Hi. This is Chaitra Yadavar, I am trying to help 3000 families that are affected by covid and work towards their overall rehabilitation and sustenance. I am tying up with Freedom For You NGO to make my work faster and better. The main geographical areas of work are Airoli, Rabale, Ghansoli, Chinchpada, and Digha in Navi Mumbai and Thane.
Throughout last year, we gave financial help to around 20 women to start small enterprises and many of them are now successfully standing on their feet and have a new avenue to earn money. They have started small businesses like selling garlic in bulk, selling bangles/clips, and cosmetics, starting a tea stall, a puri bhaji stall, and getting the required materials for strengthening their tailoring businesses. Many of them continue to work as maids and also do this mini-business.
Currently, we are focusing on 4 verticals-
1. Women's empowerment
2. Education of children
3. Income generation/skill development training for women and youth.
4. Helping emergency medical cases
In education, we have started a 'Wifi in my Galli project' in 2021 where we set up 40 routers in Airoli sector 1, to ensure that educational access for municipal school children is not interrupted as all schools had turned into virtual classrooms and children were parents of children were struggling with repeated mobile data recharges. Our project ensured 200 children with uninterrupted internet access and their teachers could successfully impart their lessons. This is also an ongoing project and we are seeking funds to continue this project from Sept 2022 to April 2023.
Many of the people in the communities we serve have lost their jobs, and suffered losses in income and many of them have taken loans to meet their daily expenses. Their financial situation is still precarious.
Currently, we are also raising funds for the education of underprivileged children (school fees). Unit test are going on and school administrations were not allowing these children to appear for exams due to pending fees of last year and the current academic year. The majority of the children we are supporting for school fees are children of widows. These women in their 20s and 30s had become widows due to the alcoholic nature of their husbands. Left to fend for themselves, they run their homes on a tight budget and work as maids. In such a meager salary of Rs.6000 per month, they are not able to take care of household expenses as well as pay for children's fees. We have been able to raise funds for 30 children and we require to raise funds for more 20 children (Rs. 6000-7000) per child.
One of our team member is collaborating with the Municipal authorities and helping several senior women who are widows get their certificate of being a widow for government benefits and also for ration cards which many of them do not have.
In 2020 and 2021, we helped raise funds for 5 surgeries and a total of 1.5 lakhs. The surgeries were for separate cases of cesarean operation, cancer, fractures, accident cases and multiple organ failure/coma. We are glad we could help in a small way with these surgeries.
To continue our work on all these fronts, we ask for your support in our mission.
We are tying up with a registered non-profit, Freedom For You so that donors can get tax benefits under 80 G.
