Raising funds to support a young Thai woman and former international student who has been exploited.
“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give,”
(Winston Churchill).
We are a group of concerned Australian citizens raising funds to support a young Thai woman and former international student who was exploited and seriously mistreated in Sydney.
Our bios can be found on the official website of our independent theatre co-op and film group Walk Now Productions – www.walknowproductions.com
The young woman was exploited by a migration agent (since deregistered), an English language school (no longer in business), and an accommodation provider charging exorbitant rent for an overcrowded apartment.
If that wasn’t enough, she was sent by her “friends” to work in an underpaid and unsafe job, and a spiral of debt began.
With our support, she has been able to get legal and health support and to leave that job. She is in the process of turning her life around and we are seeking funds to prepare for the next vital steps.
In the past 3 months, we have been able to raise funds (a total of $5,500.00), and support her to obtain a Bridging Visa E, as well as basic personal essentials, English books, medical costs, and find legal work.
She only has 2 months left on her visa and we must raise more funds to formally apply for another Bridging Visa E (6-12 months) which will include approval for her to study and continue to work.
With your assistance, we can support her to re-enter training, enabling her to return home with the skills she always dreamed of attaining.
(Photo used with permission of the person, however, she wishes to remain nameless for family reasons.)
